IMPORTANT INFORMATION
No! Because Poodles and Old English Sheepdogs have double coats, meaning they don't naturally shed their fur, we have found that Sheepadoodles have the least amount of shedding of any doodle breed! Clients who have never been able to be around dogs due to allergies also tolerate our dogs amazingly! Because their coats do not shed, coat maintenance is a must.
Depending on the generation (F1, F1b), most Sheepadoodles have long, curly/wavy coats. Because their fur is wavy and long, this requires frequent brushing and grooming to ensure mats do not become a problem. We recommend brushing your Sheepadoodle AT LEAST once a week with several different brushes, and grooming every 6-12 weeks or whatever is recommended by your groomer. In the summer months, Sheepadoodles fur can be cut shorter to help them stay cool and for easier coat maitenance. We are happy to go over our grooming routines with you before you take your puppy home!
Old English Sheepdogs tend to "herd" children due to their natural instincts. However, we have found that our small children (ages 7 and down) do great with our dogs! Many times the herding instinct can be diverted with consistent training of both the dog AND the people who are around the dog every day. This includes positive reinforcement from not only the adults, but the children as well!
We started raising this breed because we loved how loving and watchful they were of our children!
